Tartaglia, aka Childe, is one of the many playable characters in Genshin Impact. He is a five-star Hydro user whose weapon of choice is a bow. His elemental skill allows him to switch between different stances, allowing him to use melee weapons made out of hydro. For this reason, he is considered one of the most unique characters in the entirety of Genshin Impact.

Childe’s elemental burst, Havoc: Obliteration, has two stances, ranged and melee. Depending on Childe’s stance while using his elemental burst, players trigger the range stance or the melee stance.
- Ranged Stance: Flash of Havoc – Swiftly fires a Hydro-imbued magic arrow, dealing AoE Hydro DMG and applying the Riptide status. Returns a portion of its Energy Cost after use.
- Melee Stance: Light of Obliteration – Performs a slash with a large AoE, dealing massive Hydro DMG to all surrounding opponents, which triggers Riptide Blast.
- Riptide Blast – When the obliterating waters hit an opponent affected by Riptide, it clears their Riptide status and triggers a Hydro Explosion that deals AoE Hydro DMG. DMG dealt in this way is considered Elemental Burst DMG.
Now that you know the two stances that Childe can trigger during his elemental burst, let us talk about whether you should use Childe’s Ranged Burst or not.
Should You Use Childe’s Range Burst?
The damage scaling on Childe’s Range Burst is always lower than the Melee Burst. At level 10 talent, the Melee Stance burst scaling stands at 835.2%.
Meanwhile, the Ranged Stance burst scaling stands at 681.12%. Because of the lower scaling and the attack’s nature, you will find Childe’s Range Burst dealing lesser damage than its counterpart.

However, thanks to the different Elemental Reactions, passives, weapon bonuses, and other factors, Childe’s Ranged Stance can be of great use depending on the situation.
Childe’s range burst is very useful when you are dealing with a group of enemies. It helps in maintaining a continuous elemental reaction, and on top of that, it restores some amount of energy upon use.

We recommend that players use Childe’s range burst when dealing with a large group of enemies. However, for single targets, you may go for the Melee Stance burst.
