Around this time last year, WB Games announced that they were partnering with Niantic, the same company behind the mega hit Pokemon GO, to develop an all-new augmented reality game based on J.K. Rowling’s magical world of wizards.
Fully titled Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the official website has recently received a makeover this week. The story of the game has been fleshed out a bit, and now you can feast your eyes on the first teaser trailer for the game. Check it out!
The premise is this: random bits of unstable magic have been appearing in the Muggle world – that is human world for you non-Harry Potter fans – and no one knows why. These magic fritz must be contained before Muggles catch wind of it, lest the wizarding world becomes exposed to the public.
And that is where you, dear wizard, comes into the story! The Ministry is looking for wizards and witches of all ages to volunteer to help contain the Calamity and save the wizarding world. You will be enlisted into the Statue of Secrecy Task Force, a new team established by the Ministry of Magic and International Confederation of Wizards.
Gameplay details are scarce at the moment, but we expect the game to follow in the footsteps of Ingress Prime and Pokemon GO. Players will be able to create their own wizards and hunt down magic anomalies in the real world. A variety of spells straight from the Harry Potter universe are at your hands, and you will need them all to contain the Calamity.
You can pre-register on the official website to be notified of future updates. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is planned for a 2019 release.
