As 2016 is almost behind us, it’s time for charts and top lists! And here on Touch Tap Play, we have to talk about mobile games. So why not start with the best iPhone games of 2016?
Apple has just listed on the US App store the list of the 10 best iPhone games of the year and since that store is not available worldwide, we decided to share the winners with you. The list is somewhat surprising, with most games there being recently released. Also, there are some strange picks on the top list: we have Plants vs. Zombies Heroes, Steppy Pants of FIFA Mobile Soccer there… and I really think that the past 12 months had better stuff to offer!
But choosing the best of the best will always leave some people unhappy, that’s a fact! So instead of complaining, let’s check out the top 10 best iPhone games of 2016, as chosen by Apple. All these games are undoubtedly fun and if you haven’t tried them yet, you should!
Clash Royale
Enter the Arena! From the creators of Clash of Clans comes a real-time multiplayer game starring the Royales, your favorite Clash characters and much, much more. This game was unsurprisingly popular since its launch, but giving it the top award might be a bit of a stretch. You can download and play it here.
Reigns
Sit on the throne as a benevolent (or malevolent) medieval monarch of the modern age and swipe your royal fingers either left or right to impose your will upon the kingdom. Survive the seemingly never-ending gauntlet of requests from your advisors, peasants, allies, and enemies while maintaining balance between the influential factions of your kingdom. But beware, each decision you make might have implications and unfortunate consequences down the road that could put your reign and family’s dynasty at risk!
A good game indeed and we also have a free to play game that’s similar (although not as complex and entertaining): Dictator Outbreak. If you want to check out Reigns, click here to download it now.
Plants vs Zombies: Heroes
Build your team of heroes in this courageous collectible card game. Embark on a journey to discover new characters and confront mighty opponents along the way. And, for the first time ever on mobile, play as either plants or zombies. It’s the lawn of a new battle!
This is, in my opinion, the oddest entry on the list. I wasn’t a big fan of the game and there are definitely better CCGs out there. But that’s just my 2 cents. If you haven’t tried the game yet, you can check it out here.
Twofold inc.
twofold inc. is a humble puzzle game with stunning looks and mesmerizing mechanics. Scroll the playfield to unravel the tiles, then make a path to clear them away.
I will be honest with you and admit that I haven’t played this minimalist puzzle, but now I know I have to. It has to be good, it also has amazing reviews out there. So click here to download the game now if you’re like me and didn’t play it yet.
Riptide GP: Renegade
Experience the future of illicit hydrojet racing, where armored riders kick out death-defying stunts over massive waterfalls, dodge cops through public waterways, and boost at breakneck speeds across surging waves.
Yup! This one is indeed a really fun game. Great material here and hours of racing fun (and I’m not even a fan of racing games!) so click here and download it now if you haven’t played it already!
FIFA Mobile Soccer
Playing soccer has never been more exciting than in the new FIFA Mobile! Build and manage your team, go head to head, and keep coming back for daily content. Whether you’re a savvy veteran or just starting out on the soccer pitch, FIFA Mobile is bigger and better than ever, completely redesigned and built exclusively for mobile with a download size of under 100 MB – meaning you can get into the game while on the go.
It’s really impressive what EA managed to achieve with this game, definitely pushing the limits of mobile games and taking sports games to the next level. Impressive indeed, even though it’s a bit strange to see this game on the list. Check it out for free on the App Store.
Rodeo Stampede – Sky Zoo Safari
Saddle up and get ready to wrassle with the stampede-iest critters this side of the Savannah. Lions and Tigers and Bears are no match for this rodeo star. Armed with a lasso and a ten gallon hat, swing from the backs of stampeding buffalo, elephants, ostrich and more.
A really fun time waster that can keep you glued to the screen for hours! Make sure you check out our guide for the game here and then download it on the App Store!
“klocki”
Klocki is a relaxing game, that is loaded with a lot of different features. Your goal is to connect different types of lines together. Calming music and sounds were made by Wojciech Wasiak.
It seems that I really missed on some amazing puzzle games this year, as I haven’t played this one either. Let’s all download it here and see what it’s all about!
Steppy Pants
Keep your cool when faced with insurmountable odds, like reckless drivers and an inexplicable inability to step on sidewalk cracks. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll remember just how much fun you can have walking down the street.
Another strange choice for the “Game of the year” awards in my opinion. The game is definitely fun, but not one to go in the history books as one of the best games ever made. Available for free on the App Store.
The Trail
Join our pioneers on a vast journey across country unknown. Set forth to reach the town of Eden Falls – explore, craft, collect, trade, discover, and eventually settle and build.
A game that has just been recently released, it brings innovative and original gameplay elements and interesting mechanics. An interesting choice and if you haven’t played it yet, make sure you do so ASAP! Download it on the App Store today.
It’s really interesting to see that this year’s list of top games for iPhone and iPad features a bunch of free games, with the top pick being a free game! Really interesting and definitely paints a clear picture about the future of mobile games.
What do you think about this list? What iPhone games would you include on this “Best of” list?
