Pokémon Legends: Arceus is an upcoming game in the long-running Pokémon franchise.
It is the spiritual prequel to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Set in the ancient Hisui region, which we now know will eventually become the modern-day Sinnoh, this game plays fundamentally different from most of the other Pokémon games.
While it still follows the generic Pokémon formula of collecting Pokémon and using them to battle other Pokémon, the setting of the game makes it so that some features are different. One of them would be the capturing of Pokémon in the overworld itself without engaging them in a turn-based battle sequence, the likes of which players are normally used to, with some wild Pokémon exceptions.
But one thing that is familiar to most fans would be the option of choosing one of three starter Pokémon. The difference here is that the three starters that can be chosen each hail from different generations of Pokémon.
Hisuian Starters and their Evolutions
Pokémon Legends: Arceus mixes up the formula a bit by providing these starter Pokémon:
- Cyndaquil
- Rowlet
- Oshawott
As fans would notice, each of these starter Pokémon hail from the Johto, Alola, and Unova regions respectively. Along with this, each of them have specific Hisuian forms that are unique to Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
As noted in this tweet, these are the final evolutions:
- Cyndaquil evolves into Hisuian Typhlosion, a Ghost/Fire type
- Rowlet evolves into Hisuian Decidueye, a Grass/Fighting type
- Oshawott evolves into Hisuian Samurott, a Water/Dark type
These types are markedly different from their generic evolutions, and we are just as excited to try them out! Pokémon Legends: Arceus cannot arrive quick enough!
