Hogwarts Legacy, the critically-acclaimed open-world game that allows you to explore the famous Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from the Harry Potter franchise, is finally here. The game has received nothing short of praise so far, even well after its initial release.
Since Hogwarts Legacy is still a relatively new game, there’s a lot to unpack if you’re just starting or planning on getting it. So, if you’re planning to get it for PlayStation 4 or 5, you can find the differences between both consoles in this brief guide.
Differences between Hogwarts Legacy on PS4 and PS5
One of the main things to consider when choosing a platform for Hogwarts Legacy is the release date. For PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, the game launched on Feb. 10 with a Deluxe Edition that gave players three-day access on February 7.
However, if you own a PS4 or Xbox One, you can’t get the game until May 5, when it comes out for those consoles. And Nintendo Switch users also can’t play the game until July 25, so if you’re really excited to play the game and you don’t want to wait, then it’s best to get the game for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC.
Exclusive content
Another reason to choose your platform wisely is the Felix Felicis Potion recipe pre-order reward, gifted to players who pre-order the game on PlayStation 4 or 5. The Haunted Hogsmeade Shop quest is another PlayStation-exclusive perk given on launch. And although this may not appeal to many players compared to other resources like outfits, it certainly excites players who enjoy earning bonus items in such games.
You can still get these rewards if you pre-order the game on PlayStation 4. Check out the official Hogwarts Legacy version page for more information.

Difference in cost
This is easily the biggest factor that a lot of players focus on when deciding on which platform to play Hogwarts Legacy. The game’s standard edition costs $59.99 on PS4, and the same edition costs $69.99 on PS5. If you’re going for the Deluxe Edition, you’ll be paying $79.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Ultimately, the console you currently own (be it a PS4 or PS5) plays a big part in determining how you experience the game. If you have the PlayStation 4 and the means to upgrade to PlayStation 5, then why not? You get to play Hogwarts Legacy and a lot of high-graphics titles early and, in some cases, exclusively.
For now, Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to launch globally on PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
