New Pokémon Snap

How Does Online Play Work In New Pokémon Snap?

New Pokémon Snap may not be one of the main entries in the Pokémon series, but this doesn’t mean that there is no way for players to interact with one another in online multiplayer modes. While markedly different from that seen in the mainline Pokémon games, the New Pokémon Snap online mode is well-thought-out, acting as an engaging side mode that will help you improve your snapping capabilities, and become the best Pokémon photographer around.

How Does Online Play Work In New Pokémon Snap?

Online play in New Pokémon Snap, which requires an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription, lets you share your photos with other players all over the world. Before sharing your creations, you will be asked to create an album with your best shots, which can be further edited by adding captions and even embellished via the Photo Editing feature that lets you add stickers, filters, and frames to all your photos.

While you may feel like there is no need to improve what you already consider a perfect shot, you may want to do so all the same thanks to the Sweet! Medals system. These medals function as a social media like, and thus the more medals you receive, the more popular your shots are. Getting a certain number of Sweet! Medals is also needed to unlock certain Research Titles, so your shots have to become popular if you want to unlock all secrets in the game.

Online Rankings

New Pokémon Snap also features three separate rankings that allow you to understand how good you are at the game by comparing your performance to that of other players. The three ranking systems keep track of your Total Photodex Score, Total Course Score, and Individual Course Scores. The latter two will only become available once you complete the game’s main campaign.
