Pokémon Legends: Arceus was released last month after much fanfare and hype. It is the latest installment in the Pokémon series and takes a much different turn than its predecessors do in terms of storytelling and game mechanics.
The game takes place in the ancient Hisui region, which would become modern-day Sinnoh. Fighting and capturing Pokémon is drastically different with battles taking place on the overworld instead of turn-based instance battles, as was the staple of the series thus far.
One question that players have been asking is what the deal is with those huge purple spheres appearing out of nowhere? They are called Space-Time Distortion Rift Fields and add a few new features to the franchise!
Space-Time Distortion Rift Fields
Space-Time Distortion Rift Fields were introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus as a method of obtaining both rare Pokémon and rare items. When one of these spawn on the overworld, there will be a notification on the map showing its location.
Another thing that makes these fields such a worthy exploration area is the fact that some Pokémon exclusively spawn in these rifts, some of which only show up in certain regions of the map. Those include:
- Obsidian Fieldlands: Johto Sneasel
- Crimson Mirelands: Porygon
- Cobalt Coastlands: Magnemite
- Coronet Highlands: Cranidos/Shieldon
- Alabaster Icelands: Scizor
As amazing as this sounds, these rift fields do not last forever, so we recommend getting to hunting asap!
How Long Do They Last?
Space-Time Distortion Rift Fields are uncommon spawns on the overworld, and they do not last very long, either. From what we know so far, these fields last an average of about 10-15 real-time minutes upon spawning. Once the player enters this field, however, the clock starts to tick down even faster, so it would be best to get everything the player needs before it de-spawns.
