Sonic is back this fall with a brand new, high speed, side-scrolling platform adventure! Sonic and friends have been polished up and are looking great in the new trailer for Sonic Superstars, and we are all getting pretty excited to see what this new game has to offer.
There has been some debate after it was first announced, about whether this Sonic game will be multiplayer and online. Let’s explore exactly how many players can play Sonic Superstars together this fall.
How many players can play Sonic Superstars?
The first announcement for Sonic Superstars came at the Summer Game Fest where Sega mentioned that up to four players will be able to join in on the Story Mode in local co-op play. The lack of an online play mention led many players to believe there would be no online PvP option at all.
Thankfully this is not the case and, in an email sent out to newsletter subscribers, it was confirmed by Sega that Sonic Superstars will include an online (and local) Battle Mode.

This news was confirmed on Twitter by user @SSF1991 who explained to those who did not receive the email that players could join “local and online Battle Mode” and “challenge players from around the world”, which sounds exciting!

Sonic Superstar’s brand-new look combines the look of 3D animation with the 2D platform we all know and love, as well as new powers and thrilling new abilities to master.
