The Giant Clam is a mini-boss that appears in Sunken Sea, as a part of the Calamity mod for Terraria. The Giant Clam is generally the first mini-boss that most players will encounter during the journey through the Calamity, and today we’ll show you how to beat it with our Giant Clam guide!
How to Beat Giant Clam in Terraria
The Giant Clam is located in the Sunken Sea, which is usually generated directly beneath the Underground Desert. As expected, the Sunken Sea is mostly composed of underwater tunnels, so make sure you have a way to breathe longer underwater.
The Giant Clam will spawn somewhere in the Sunken Sea, but only after you’ve defeated the Desert Scourge. It is naturally passive, and it will not attack you until you make the first strike. The Giant Clam spawns with its shell closed, but if you attack it enough, it’ll become hostile and the boss fight will officially begin.
Once the Giant Clam becomes aggressive, it will automatically inflict the Clamity debuff on you, which causes mini clams to spawn to help the Giant Clam attack you. The debuff will also drop the spawn rate of the other enemies in the Sunken Sea to zero, so you just have to focus on the Giant Clam.
The Giant Clam really only has two moves it can use against you. Despite its immense size, the Giant Clam can teleport above you in an attempt to crush you as it slams back into the ground. When it’s not trying to crush you, it’ll close back up to protect itself and then spawn more mini clams.
As long as you’re staying on the move, you should be able to dodge it when it tries to crush you. Take out the mini clams as they spawn in to prevent yourself from getting overwhelmed, and attack the Giant Clam when it’s open and exposed. Eventually, you’ll take it down!
The Giant Clam gains new moves and more health if you’re fighting it in Hardmode. It will now fire homing pearls at you, so you’ll need to be quick to dodge them. It can also rain pearls upon you, with moments of brief respite in between.
The Giant Clam will drop the Sea King NPC if he’s not already in your world. It’ll also drop Navystone, Mollusk Husk, and sometimes either Amidias’ Pendant or Giant Pearl. Defeating the Giant Clam in Hardmode will also drop one of the following items:
- Poseidon
- Clamor Rifle
- Shellfish Staff
- Clam Crusher
