Guide to building the best starting town in Roblox Mini Cities

First off, if this is your first time playing Mini Cities, we highly recommend playing through the tutorial. Not only will it teach you the essentials, but it’ll also give you a good starting blueprint for your city.

The tutorial has you build a small box that’s outlined with roads. This is a pretty good layout to start with, as you can provide ample road connections to all the buildings within.

You should build some houses first, because you can’t have a city without places to live in! Once people start moving in, it’s time to supply them with jobs, so build some industrial and commercial buildings.

Now that you’ve got a solid foundation to build upon, you can start catering to the needs of your city. This is the best way of building a beginning city we feel, as it ensures that your citizens are happy.

Tap or click on the smiley face in the top left corner of the screen. This will bring up a general overview of how happy your citizens are. You can see exactly what is making them happy or unhappy by looking at the symbols and percentages.

In our case, our citizens were a bit unhappy due to the lack of nature around the city.

If your city is still new, you’re probably going to see a lot of 0% with a low average happiness. Don’t panic, as you can raise happiness by building the correct buildings. Here’s what each symbol refers to.

  • Droplet: Water supply
  • Lightning bolt: Power supply
  • Graduation cap: Education
  • Shop: Commercial buildings
  • Bench: Parks and Recreation
  • Tree: Nature and Props
  • Fire: Fire Station
  • Badge: Police Station
  • Medical sign: Hospital

In order for your residents to be happy, they need to have access to all of the above services and facilities, so make sure to build them all. When your citizens are happy, they’ll work at their jobs better, thus promoting a better economy for your city.

Do note that nature and props only affect the houses that are within 10 tiles of them. If your trees are plants are too far away from the houses, they won’t improve happiness. We like to build a little communal garden in between residential blocks, so that everyone can benefit from them.

One more thing to keep in mind is that some categories have multiple levels to them. For example, there are level 2 and higher residential buildings that have their own happiness category, and aren’t impacted by buildings lower than their level.

Let’s say you have two houses, one level 1, and the other level 2. You build a bunch of public service facilities that are also level 1. The citizens living in the level 1 house would have high happiness due to the amount of level 1 facilities, but the level 2 citizens would remain sad, because they’re only influenced by level 2 facilities.

As you expand your city and build better and higher level facilities, it’s important to keep this distinction in mind. If you’re trying to improve the happiness of a certain level, make sure you build facilities of the right level. The happiness tracker has a level breakdown to help you organize things.
