Rotom is quite the interesting Pokémon, as it can change appearance at will and even take control of every day appliances. Catching one in Pokémon Go is difficult, as it seems to only appear during certain events, so we’ll show you how to catch Rotom in Pokémon Go in 2024.
How to Encounter and Catch Rotom in Pokémon Go
Rotom is a silly and curious Pokémon, as it loves to change forms. One day it might be a cell phone—which you actually get to use in some of the mainline Pokémon games—and sometimes it might be a fridge, or a washing machine. Because of this interesting ability, Rotom is usually hard to find in the Pokémon games.
Over this past weekend, the Pokémon Go Tour: Sinnoh – Los Angeles event happened, which was another official real-world event. Trainers could participate in group activities together, catch exclusive Pokémon, hatch many eggs, and more!
During the event, there was a secret task that involved a hidden message. A few weeks ago, if you were paying attention to Pokémon Go social media outlets, you may have caught something about a “ghost in the machine”. This was actually a prelude to the secret task at the Los Angeles event, which required Trainers to work together to solve the puzzle.
The Trainers who were at the Los Angeles event managed to solve the paranormal puzzle, and as a reward, Niantic has released special code that all Trainers can redeem to have a special encounter with Rotom. The code is:
- 0HY0UF0UNDM3
If you’ve never redeemed a code before in Pokémon Go, it’s actually a bit of a process. Head on over to the offer redemption website to get started. Press the Sign in to Redeem button and log in with the same account that you use for Pokémon Go.
Once you’re logged in, you can enter the code (make sure to type it exactly as it appears), and you should receive a message saying that your code was valid.
Now, open Pokémon Go on your mobile device. You should automatically receive a new medal, alongside a Timed Research task called Global Unlock: Ghost in the Machine. For this task you need to catch 30 Pokémon that originated in the Sinnoh region to get 479 Stardust, 479 XP, and the Rotom Encounter.
You only have until the end of this coming Sunday to finish this task, so don’t miss out on your first chance to catch Rotom in 2024! If you have any other questions or tips, let us know in the comments below, and don’t forget to check out the rest of our Pokémon Go coverage.
