Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX

How to Combine Monsters in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX

In both Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX, players can obtained a variety of monsters by using the games’ unique generation system that uses music CDs. While the system works well enough, even with the changes required to make it work on systems that cannot read music CDs, you will hardly get the best possible monsters this way.

The only way to get the best monsters in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX is by combining them. Here’s how it works.

How to Combine Monsters in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX

Combining monsters is pretty straightforward in both Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX at first glance, but it hides a surprising amount of depth.

The first step to combining two monsters in both games is to freeze them. This can be achieved in the Lab for the price of 500G. Once this is done, the two monsters can be combined. The resulting monster will be different depending on the breed of the monsters you have used in the process: you can combine monsters of the same breed to get another purebred monster, or you can create hybrids by combining monsters of different breeds.

While it may seem like you have no control over the combining process, outside of picking different breeds to get different results, there are ways to actually alter the monster you receive after combining. To do so, you will have to use CD Fragments, or Disc Chips in the second Monster Rancher, which can be obtained fairly easily by winning select tournaments or during Expeditions. By using these items, you can pass secret abilities and stats onto the resulting monster, creating some very unique combinations that can result in a very powerful monster, often better than a purebred. The possibilities are almost endless, so make sure to experiment to see what works best, and dominate all tournaments with your new monsters!
