Activision’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has received nothing short of praise ever since it launched and quickly became the franchise’s biggest-selling game ever after amassing $1 billion in ten days.
There’s a lot to love about CoD MW2 and apart from its significant financial success, the game’s campaign and multiplayer have improved a lot compared to previous installments. And in this guide, we’ll be looking at how to counter Riot Shields in Modern Warfare 2.
How to Counter Riot Shields in Modern Warfare 2
While some might see the Riot Shield as a new addition to MW2, it’s a feature that’s been around since Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2009). When using a Riot Shield, opposing enemy bullets won’t be able to hit you, and likewise, when you’re facing an enemy that’s using Riot Shield, your bullets won’t be able to hit them as well.
Regardless of who has a Riot Shield equipped, it gives them a significant advantage over a player who doesn’t have it equipped. However, it has its downsides as well. One of which is its decreased mobility and not allowing the player to equip primary weapons like LMGs or even Assault Rifles without first activating the Overkill Perk.
So, one of the ways to counter Riot Shields is by using Shock Sticks that can electrocute any enemy that comes close to it making them unable to keep fighting effectively. It works on Riot Shield users as well.
If an enemy is using Riot Shield, you can throw a Shock Stick in their direction (even without hitting them) and as long as it is in their vicinity, it should weaken them enough and allow you time to reach and put them down. Just try not to get caught inside the Shock Stick’s electric field.
Another brilliant way to counter an enemy with Riot Shield is by using Stun Grenade+Semtex. However, be sure you’re in the clear from enemies before using the Stun Grenade+Semtex as it can take a while to set up. Once you’re good to go, simply throw a Stun grenade at an enemy with Riot Shield to slow them down and then throw a Semtex as well to stun them and take them out before they can recover.
You can also use Molotovs to take down enemies with Riot Shield and this works well from a distance as you simply need to aim and throw it at them and allow the fire that spreads afterward to finish the job. There are other explosives in the game that you can use to take down enemies with Riot Shield equipped, but the above are the ones we’ve tried and they proved very useful.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, along with the recently released DMZ mode, are now available to play on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
