How to Deal With Mussel Shells in Dwarf Fortress

In this guide, you can find all the details on how to deal with Mussel Shells in Dwarf Fortress, so they don't fill up your inventory.

Mussels are small creatures that you often find in and around water bodies while fishing and doing other activities in Dwarf Fortress. Like oysters, cave lobsters, nautiluses, and turtles, they drop Shells, which can quickly fill your different storage units. There are two ways to deal with a ton of Mussel Shells in Dwarf Fortress. First, you can use them at Craftsdwarf’s workshop to make armor, jewelry, and other such Shellcrafts—which, in turn, you can use or trade at different places.

Other than that, you can make a Dumping Zone near a volcano and dump the extra Mussel Shells. But because that is essentially putting them to waste, we recommend you use them at Craftsdwarf’s workshop; just make sure you have Bone Carvers.

You can use the crafts made from Mussel Shells for trading, giving them to Dwarfs (some of them like it as a beauty product), or trade it with Trade Caravans.
