The Solar Pillar is a mini-boss that is a part of the Celestial Event in Terraria. Defeating the Solar Pillar is the key to summoning the Moon Lord, the final boss of Terraria. It’s no easy feat taking down the four Celestial Pillars, so today we’ll show you how to defeat a Solar Pillar in Terraria!
How to Defeat the Solar Pillar
Upon defeating the Lunatic Cultist, your world will get the message:
“Celestial creatures are invading!”
As soon as you see this message, four giant alien Pillars will spawn around your world. These are the Celestial Pillars, and each one must be taken down in order to fight the Moon Lord. One of the pillars is the Solar Pillar, distinguished by its orange and reddish color.
The Solar Pillar spawns in with an impenetrable shield. As soon as you begin your approach, the Solar Pillar will start spawning enemies nearby. You’ll need to take out 100 enemies (150 on Expert Mode) in order to bring down the shield. The enemies you’ll face are:
- Corite
- Crawltipede
- Drakanian
- Drakomire
- Selenian
- Sroller

Make sure to bring your strongest gear into the battle, because these enemies can do some serious damage to you if you’re not prepared. Each Pillar spawns a different set of enemies, and the Solar Pillar’s enemies are by far the hardest.
To make things harder, the Crawltipede is probably the most dangerous enemy of the Solar Pillar’s army. These things soar through the air, and the only way to damage them is by hitting the small core on their tail. However, they’ll only chase you if you’re flying around in the air. If you stay grounded, they’ll ignore you completely.
A good strategy involves building a sky bridge of sorts. This will get you off the ground where you’re open to attacks from all angles, but since you’re standing on a bridge high up, you’re considered grounded still and the Crawltipedes won’t target you. Being high up gives you a nice vantage point, but be careful not to get too close to the Solar Pillar, as it’ll spew out fireballs from the top that deal severe damage.
Once the shield is down, you can attack the Solar Pillar with everything you’ve got. Once you defeat it, it’ll drop precious materials that allow you to craft some of the strongest melee weapons in the game, namely Daybreak and Solar Eruption.
