While even regular demons can be challenging, they cannot compare to the powerful bosses you will have to face during your journey to reshape the world.

The very first boss you will have to fight in Shin Megami Tensei V is Hydra. Here’s how to defeat it.

How to Defeat Hydra in Shin Megami Tensei V

Hydra is the very first story boss in Shin Megami Tensei V. It is encountered as soon as you reach Tokyo Tower, and it requires a solid strategy and the right demons to defeat.

Hydra is weak against Ice, so you will want to bring as many demons as possible to the fight that can use Bufu. It’s also recommended to make the Nahobino learn Bufu as well to take full advantage of the weakness system and deal as much damage as possible to the Hydra in a single turn. The demon has a lot of HP, so it is in your best interest to make the fight as short as possible.

Since Hydra comes with high HP, you probably won’t be able to defeat it before you run out of MP. For this reason, it’s best to exploit its weakness when you need an extra turn for healing and debuffing or to use Dark Dampeners. Hydra will use Toxic Breath once it has charged Magatsuhi, so make sure to use this item to null the effects of the skill. Another smart way of using Bufu skills, and thus your MP, is to wait until you have charged Magatsuhi yourself and activated the Omagatoki: Critical Skill. This will make all your attacks deal critical damage, thus making them even more effective.
