How to Evolve Galarian Yamask in Pokemon Sword and Shield

Yamask was a Pokemon that was initially introduced in Generation V, being a pure Ghost type Pokemon. However, unlike Unovan Yamask, Generation VIII introduced the Ground / Ghost Galarian Yamask, a regional variant of the original.

While Unovan Yamask evolves into Cofagrigus, Galarian Yamask evolves into an entirely different Pokemon — albeit similar thematically — named Runerigus, and not simply a Galarian form of Cofagrigus.

Runerigus carries over the Ground /Ghost dual typing from its pre-evolution, with the unique ability Wandering Spirit, that replaces any Pokemon’s ability with Wandering Spirit if its move made contact with Runerigus.

Runerigus is slow, but has a high attack stat along with good bulk, making it a hard-hitting tank; all of this stemming from the little roaming spirit, Galarian Yamask. If you want to learn how to evolve Galarian Yamask in Pokemon Sword and Shield, then just read on below!

How to Evolve Galarian Yamask into Runerigus in Pokemon Sword and Shield

Evolving Galarian Yamask is one of the most unique evolving methods that you will ever come across, which would require you to be pretty careful. Below, we have listed the step-by-step method you should follow in order to evolve your Galarian Yamask:

  1. Enter a battle against a weak Pokemon.
  2. Have your Yamask enter the fight.
  3. Let it get hit by the lower level / weak Pokemon.
  4. Make sure your Galarian Yamask has lost 49 HP or more.
  5. Exit the battle.
  6. Head to the Dusty Bowl zone of the Wild Area.
  7. Make sure your weakened Yamask is in your party.
  8. Run under the stone arch in the Dusty Bowl.

After you’ve done that, you should witness your Galarian Yamask evolving into a Runerigus. Congratulations!

Something important to note: the damage your Yamask takes needs to come from an enemy Pokemon’s attacks. The 49 HP or more missing can’t be dealt by features like Hail, Life Orb recoil damage, etc.
