Runes are a vital currency in Elden Ring. Beyond simply allowing you to buy and upgrade items, they also function to level up your character. Sometimes, a few extra levels can be build-enabling, especially when you’re just shy of being able to use a new weapon.
When it comes to Elden Ring on Steam Deck, you should know that the game functions very much the same on Valve’s handheld as it does on a regular PC. With that in mind, let’s look at a strategy that greatly expedites your ability to farm runes as we explain how to farm runes in Elden Ring on Steam Deck! Then, if you want, you can even use your newly found knowledge in an Elden Ring co-op game!
Farming Albinaurics in Mohgwyn’s Palace
You’ve likely encountered Albinaurics in Elden Ring already, even if you haven’t been to Mohgwyn’s Palace. With their huge heads and rather alien-looking appearance, they’re hard to miss. Ordinarily, they’re pretty unremarkable enemies, but the ones just after the first Grace in Mohgwyn’s Palace have a few things going for them.
First of all, they give 2,000 runes a piece. This isn’t a huge number, but it’s pretty substantial, considering how easily they can be killed. Furthermore, most of the Albinaurics here don’t react to the player whatsoever until attacked. The red ones can be dangerous, but this spot is so close to a Grace that even if you’re killed, it will be trivial to get your lost runes back.
Using just about any build in the game, this is easily amongst the best farming spots.
Maximizing Your Rune Gain
What really makes this spot ridiculous, though, is when you use the Sacred Relic Sword, which is obtained after defeating the game’s final boss. The Sacred Relic Sword’s special skill unleashes a huge wave of light that deals heavy damage for a massive distance in front of you.
Amazingly, this skill can clear nearly the entirety of the group of Albinaurics with a single attack. If you angle it correctly, you can kill almost all of them and reset at the Grace in around 20 seconds. If you use this strategy efficiently, you can easily farm multiple millions of runes per hour.
Also, keep in mind that if you decide to farm runes in NG+, you’ll get nearly twice as many per kill. If you really want to push it, it’s pretty easy to reach level 200 using this strategy, which normally would take days.
So, What’s the Best Way to Farm Runes?
Clear the group of seated Albinaurics just after the first Grace in Mohgwyn’s Palace. This spot works well with any weapon, but the Sacred Relic Sword and its unique skill put it far above any other spot in the game. Try this strategy on NG+ for nearly twice as many runes, as well! That’s pretty much all there is to farming runes in Elden Ring!
