magikarp from pokemon

How to Feed Magikarp in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

You can catch Magikarp early without entering the water in Pokemon Legends Arceus. Here is how to do it.

Magikarp are available fairly early on in the game even before you get access to being in the water (via the Hisuian Basculegion), which can make them tricky to get close to if they aren’t swimming close. However, while you cannot swim on your own, you can use wild Pokemon food to lure them closer to the water’s edge in order to be able to throw a ball at them. Here is how to do it.

When tested, Oran berries worked the best for this process. If you need some, go to a tree with Oran berries on it, release one Pokemon by pressing ZR and they will hit the tree, making its fruit drop. Make sure you are on the screen with your Pokemon and not your items so you don’t accidentally waste something. You can switch between tossing out Pokemon and items by pressing X.

Where To Find Magikarp

Magikarp can be mainly found swimming down in the water at Obsidian Falls, near the same area where Gyarados flies overhead. To get there, go eastward from the Deertrack Heights camp, walk over the Worn Bridge crossing, and go down by the waterline.

Typically, the Magikarp will swim up to the water’s edge, but if they aren’t moving, tossing those berries will work. Try to throw a ball while they are still bobbing above the surface, as they can be difficult to hit if they go underwater. Missing too many times will cause them to dart. Power-wise, they aren’t particularly difficult to catch, so toss either a regular Poke Ball or Great Ball at them.
