How to Get a Handgun in Terraria

The Handgun in Terraria is one of 11 guns in the game to be named after a real-world weapon along with others such as the Uzi, Shotgun, Revolver, and Musket. The weapon is considered more effective than the Flintlock, and can be used to craft a more powerful weapon: the Phoenix Blaster.

Obtaining the Handgun

Handgun

To find the handgun, you must search the Dungeon. Within the Dungeon, there are usually 1-2 Handguns to be found. They can usually be found in a Locked Gold Chest. Gold Chests can be unlocked using a Golden Key and may contain many unique items alongside a Handgun. Golden Keys can be found in various places:

  • Inside regular chests in the Dungeon
  • Killing a Dungeon Slime (100% chance)
  • After breaking a regular Pot in the Dungeon (1/40 chance)
  • Killing Angry Bones/Cursed Skull/Dragon Skull/Dark Caster in the Dungeon (1/65 chance)

Once you have used the Golden Key to open the Locked Gold Chest, the key is used up and another must be found to unlock the next Gold Chest.

The Phoenix Blaster

Once obtained, the Handgun can be crafted into a Phoenix Blaster, which deals +7 damage and +3 velocity compared to the Handgun. All that is needed is the Handgun and 10 Hellstone Bars, combined at an Iron or Lead Anvil crafting station.
