You can get the Lava Shark mount in Terraria by using the Superheated Blood summoning item. 

You can get the Superheated Blood summoning item by opening Obsidian Crates or Hellstone Crates.

So, the question is, where can you get yourself some Obsidian Crates or Hellstone Crates? You can get them by fishing in Lava. The spawn rate is not 100%. So, you have to farm them for a while till you get the Crates and then the Superheated Blood summoning item. 

Once you have the Lava Shark mount, you can use it to traverse the Lava surface without taking any damage.
