Pokémon Sword and Shield feature a lot of different Pokémon, and some of them can be obtained in very unconventional ways that spice up the experience a bit, making the two games feel different from every other Pokémon game released before them.

Among these Pokemon that are obtained in rather unique ways are four fossil Pokémon. Here’s how to get all of them.

How to Get All Fossil Pokemon in Pokémon Sword and Shield

Pokémon Sword and Shield feature four different fossil Pokémon that can only be obtained by mixing and matching different fossils. The four fossil Pokémon are:

  • Arctovish (Water/Ice type)
  • Arctozotl (Electric/Ice type)
  • Dracovish (Water/Dragon type)
  • Dracozolt (Electric/Dragon type)

The fossils that must be mixed to get one of these four Pokémon are Bird, Dino, Drake, and Fish, and getting any of them can be easy or hard depending on the version of the game.

You can get Bird and Dino fossils in Pokémon Sword in Route 6 and the Dusty Bowls in the Wild Area. You can also get two Bird fossils by visiting the Pokémon Center in Stow-on Side. In Pokémon Shield, you can get Fish and Drake fossils in Route 6 and the Dusty Bowl, and two Drake fossils by visiting the Pokémon Center in Stow-on Side.

The only way to get all four fossils in both Pokémon Sword and Shield is by using the Diggin Duo’s services. The two characters can be found near the Pokémon Nursery in the Bridge Field location of the Wild Area, and they will dig up rare items, including fossils, for Watts. Do note that you have higher chances of getting fossils that are easy to find in your version of the game, so it’s easier, for example, to find Bird fossils in Pokémon Sword and Drake fossils in Pokémon Shield.

Once you have obtained all the fossils you need, head to Route 6 and speak with Professor Cara Liss. You will then be able to choose between two of the fossils in your possession, and by using the right combination, you will be able to receive any of the four fossil Pokémon. The available combinations are:

  • Fossilized Fish + Fossilized Dino = Arctovish
  • Fossilized Bird + Fossilized Dino = Arctozolt
  • Fossilized Fish + Fossilized Drake = Dracovish
  • Fossilized Bird + Fossilized Drake = Dracozolt
