In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you need an ax to cut down trees. There are as many as four types of axes: fragile ax (weak), stone ax (stone), ax (normal), and golden (very strong).
How to Get an Axe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
A fragile ax is crafted from branches. Then you can “upgrade” it to the stone version or the normal Ax (regular) version, and finally to the Gold (gold) version. You will have to do all this in the workshop (DIY Workbench).
The capabilities of axes vary considerably. If you want to get wood from a tree, use Flimsy or Stone axes, and if you want to chop down a tree completely, use a more durable one.
A fragile ax will break after 30 hits, while a stone ax and a regular ax will last longer.
Below is information about the materials needed to craft axes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
