Skul: The Hero Slayer is a 2D platforming roguelike where players take control of Skul, the only survivor of the Demon Lord’s army. Skul has the unique ability to take the skulls of heroes past and utilize their abilities, and they can even be upgraded. Today, we’ll show you how to get Bone Fragments in Skul: The Hero Slayer!
How to Get Bone Fragments
Skul can have a maximum of two Skulls at a time, and if you find another one, you’ll need to replace one of your existing Skulls. Alternatively, you can hold down the button to destroy the Skull instead, granting you some Bone Fragments in return. If you leave an area with a Skull lying around somewhere, it’ll automatically be destroyed.
You can see the amount of Bone Fragments you’ll get if you do decide to destroy the Skull, so you don’t have to guess if it’s worth it or not. Skulls that are higher rarity will give you more fragments.

The giant spider lady NPC Arachne can be found after every mini-boss and boss. You can give her Bone Fragments to upgrade your currently equipped Skull to the next rarity level. Here’s the exchange chart:
- Common ⇾ Rare: 10 Bone Fragments
- Rare ⇾ Unique: 30 Bone Fragments
- Unique ⇾ Legendary: 100 Bone Fragments
When a Skull is upgraded to the next rarity, its abilities become stronger. Skulls do not stay upgraded after a run is over, and you also lose your Bone Fragments at the end of a run, so there’s no point in holding onto your Bone Fragments for later. Use them to upgrade your favorite Skulls!
