Bonsly is a Pokémon that was introduced in the original Generation 4’s Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Despite appearances leading players to believe it might be a grass-type Pokémon, Bonsly is, in fact, a rock-type Pokémon that originates in the game’s Sinnoh region.
Bonsly is the pre-evolved form of Sudowoodo and is, overall, a capable Pokémon in battle. Despite originating in Sinnoh, players can very well catch it in the Galar region in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Here’s how:
How to acquire Bonsly
Bonsly can be acquired in a few ways, some of which can be more challenging than the rest. The player can either:
- Find a Bonsly in the wild
- Hatch a Bonsly from an egg in the Nursery
- Spawn a Bonsly from a two-star raid
The wild method
Bonsly can be found in the Bridge Field section of the wild area, but only during a sandstorm. The quickest way to trigger a Bonsly encounter would be to run into the shaking grass to spawn it. The hardest part of this method would be to wait for a sandstorm, but the Nintendo Switch does allow the player to change the date and time for a little “hacking” of their own.
The egg method
If by some chance, the player has managed to acquire a Sudowoodo, preferably a couple of them of different genders, they can take the Sudowoodo to the Nursery on Route 5, while giving one of the Sudowoodo a Rock Incense to hold. The Rock Incense can be bought at the Incense Merchant at Hulbery for 2,000 Pokedollars. After this, it’s a matter of waiting for the egg to hatch.
The raid method
This method is the most unreliable one. Bonsly can be found as a two-star raid, but since the chance of spawning it is completely random, it might either be really easy to encounter one or insanely difficult.
Our recommendation here would be to breed and hatch a Bonsly in the Nursery as it would be easy to get the stats the player requires.
