How to Get Shiny Starters

As mentioned, YouTuber BLAINES has set up his own bot system for use with Global Union Room feature. Essentially, Trainers can connect using a special Link Code to get to a room that spawns in an automated bot Trainer. Real Trainers can initiate a trade with the bot Trainer, and they’ll receive a shiny starter! You can watch the whole thing in action right here.

We’ll also walk you through the process, step-by-step. First, you’ll need to connect to the correct room to get your desired starter. Press the Y button when you’re just standing around to open the Union Room feature, then select Global Room. Advance through the text and choose Yes, with a Link Code when prompted. Enter one of the following codes that matches what you’re after:

• 50505050: Shiny Turtwig holding Gold Bottlecap
• 60606060: Shiny Chimchar holding Ability Patch
• 70707070: Shiny Piplup holding Masterball
• 80808080: All three randomized
• 90909090: All three randomized

Join the room with the Pokémon you’re after. This is important: when you join the room, make sure that nobody else is also waiting in the room. The bot Trainer can only spawn if there’s exactly one person in the room, so leave if you find another human Trainer. Keep trying the code until you get an empty room.

The bot Trainer will spawn in after a few minutes, so be patient. They will always appear as the Cow Girl Trainer, and when they spawn in, they’ll have the trade icon over their head. Talk to them to initiate the trade, choose whatever you want to give away, and you’ll get your shiny!

The last two codes on the list will have a Trainer that randomly gives away one of the three starters, and each trade is different. You can try these rooms if you’re after all three and the first three codes are busy.

Please note that these bots are active 24/7, so if you keep getting into a room with other human players, simply wait a bit and try again later. You’ll get your chance, so don’t worry about it!
