How To Get Thief (TM018) in Scarlet and Violet

Technical Machines, or TMs, are data discs that can bestow new moves upon your Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. TMs are a quick and easy way to hone your battle strategies, as you don’t need to grind out levels to learn certain moves. Today, we’ll show you how to get Thief (TM018) in Scarlet & Violet.

Obtaining Thief (TM018) in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

TM018 teaches the Dark-type physical move Thief, which attacks with a base power of 60 and 100 accuracy. Thief steals the target’s held item when the attack lands, but if the user is already holding an item of their own, the item won’t be stolen.

Before you can craft TM018 at the TM Machine, you’ll need to find it first. There are two ways to find TM018: You can find it out in the wild, or you can take down Team Star’s Fire Crew Base, which is situated in the East Province (Area One), directly north of Artazon.

Upon defeating Mela of the Schedar Squad, you’ll unlock the ability to craft several TMs, with TM018 being one of them. You won’t receive an actual copy directly, so you’ll need to craft TM018 yourself if you go this route.

The other method is to find TM018 lying around in the wild. Fly to the South Province (Area Two) Pokémon Center, then follow the path north. You’ll see a large mountain area, with a small valley between. On the north side of the valley, there’s a small cliff that has TM018 sitting on it.

Once you’ve found TM018, you can craft as many copies as you like at the TM Machine. You’ll need the following materials to craft it:

• 3,000 LP
• Houndour Fang x 3
• Shroodle Ink x 3
