Summoner

How to Make a Summoner in Terraria

Terraria is an action-adventure sandbox game developed by Re-Logic. The game was first released for Microsoft Windows on May 16, 2011, and has since been ported to several other platforms, including Nintendo Switch. The game features exploration, crafting, building, painting, and combat with a variety of creatures in a procedurally generated 2D world.

Today we will be talking about classes, especially the Summoner.

Classes

Classes in Terraria work differently than they do in other games. Terraria has no default pre-set for their hero classes. In fact, building characters a certain way requires players to equip different types of weapons and gear and play a specific style.

As of now, there are 4 types of classes that most players build their characters as:

  • Melee
  • Ranged
  • Magic
  • Summon

Each class gains more complex abilities as the game progresses, enabling more strategic variety in combat. It is also recommended to use buff potions and healing potions to increase efficiency and survivability in combat.

In general, it is recommended to focus on one class. Many armors, accessories, and buffs only benefit a specific class, especially later in the game. In this case, we’re going to be talking about the Summoner class and how to make a good one.

Summoner Class

Playing as a summoner is a lot like building traps to overcome every obstacle. Unlike Melee, Ranged, and Magic users, all your weapons can pierce through walls, in a way. Simply summon the minion outside the wall. Terrain preparation is more important than anything else for a Summoner (Conversely, also why Gravity potions are nearly useless in boss fights). The Summoner is also the only class that can exploit invulnerability timers the most.

Minions are the staple of Summoners and can also be their liability because their AI can be terrible at times. Summons have a leash range, and if you go beyond the leash range, they will just follow you and not do anything else till they get back in range. To alleviate this, resummoning them is the best option. Resummoned minions will attack instantly.

Last but not least, as far as weapons go, Summoners use Whips/Staves and we feel the best ones would be:

  • Best Whip: Durandal/Dark Harvest
  • Best Staff: Terraprisma/Xeno Staff

And that’s all! Is there anything more you would like to add? Let us know!
