How to Parry in Elden Ring
To parry an attack in Elden Ring, first, you must use a shield that comes with a Parry skill or apply the skill to any shield of your choice and equip it. Once that is done, to parry an incoming attack, wait till the enemy charges his attack and then press the L2 button (LT on Xbox) to use the Parry skill of your shield.

If you time it correctly, you will deflect the attack and stagger the enemy, making them prone to critical attack.
You must keep it in mind! Not all enemies in Elden Ring can be parried, and some enemies you can parry but can’t stagger. Instead, you will just stun them for a few seconds by pushing them back.

Similarly, parry doesn’t mean a guaranteed Critical Hit, as it depends on the enemy you parried. That said, there are certain Parry Skills, like the Golden Parry, that you can apply on a shield of your choice and then use to parry even more effectively from a small distance.
You can also use the Carian Retaliation Parry Skill to parry spells and physical attacks right when they are about to hit you by pressing the skill button, which on the PS4 and PS5 is the L2 button, and on Xbox is the LT button.
