How to Stop Pokemon From Running Away in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Pokémon Legends: Arceus was released last month after much fanfare and hype. It is the latest installment in the Pokémon series and takes a much different turn than its predecessors do in terms of storytelling and game mechanics.

The game takes place in the ancient Hisui region, which would become modern-day Sinnoh. Fighting and capturing Pokémon is drastically different with battles taking place on the overworld instead of turn-based instance battles, as was the staple of the series thus far.

As such, there are moments where the player will prevail and some moments where they would want to live to fight another day. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, this also applies to the wild Pokémon you encounter!

Pokémon Encounters

As mentioned before, battles take place on the overworld, removing the old dashing through the grass system to encounter wild Pokémon. Due to this, the player gets to see exactly what Pokémon they are encountering and whether or not they want to proceed with the battle.

Some Pokémon may be too high of a level, so the player may want to avoid battle. For the player, that part is simple. Just holding down the B button in battle will trigger the battle to end and the player can run away if the Pokémon is too strong.

But the question here is, can wild Pokémon do the same?

Escaping Battle

The short answer to that question is yes, wild Pokémon do run away from battle. Pokémon with a skittish nature tend to do that more often than others.

To alleviate this problem, we recommend using a stealth-based approach for the Pokémon that are more likely to run from battle. The player can either use their Pokémon to attack the wild Pokémon from behind, stunning it for a few turns in battle, or even sneaking up behind the Pokémon, offering the player an opportunity to capture it without even fully engaging it in battle!
