Gone are the days when players struggled to store their written or enchanted books due to their unstackable nature. With the arrival of the Minecraft 1.20 update, a dedicated storage option has finally emerged, designed exclusively for books.

Chiseled Bookshelf in Minecraft: all you need to know

Chiseled bookshelves are the new storage space for keeping books, including written books, enchanted books, and any other type of book in Minecraft. Each chiseled bookshelf has six slots for storing books. There is no interactive menu for chiseled bookshelves, but don’t worry, using them is pretty simple and straightforward.

To store a book, simply aim at an empty slot and perform a quick right-click (or left trigger on a controller) to place it into the slot. Likewise, retrieving a book is just as easy. Just take aim at the desired slot and, once again, perform a right-click (or left trigger) to withdraw the book.

Players who love to tinker with redstone can use hoppers and droppers. If the idea of the chiseled bookshelf feels intriguing to you, here’s how you can craft it.

To create a chiseled bookshelf, you need to obtain six wooden planks and three wooden slabs first. It doesn’t matter which type of wood you use. Once you have gathered these materials, open up a crafting table and place the items in the following pattern: put three planks in the top row, three planks in the bottom row, and three slabs in the middle row. If placed correctly, you will craft a chiseled bookshelf.
