How to Plant the SOS Beacon in Dead Space Remake – Guide

While it's not the hardest mission, it's also not the simplest task. So here's how to plant the SOS Beacon in Dead Space Remake.

Video game publisher EA has launched a remake of its popular 2008 survival horror Dead Space. Developed by Motive Studio, Dead Space Remake takes players back to the world of the sinister monstrosities known as Necromorphs.

This time, however, players get to play many objectives besides the mainline story missions and enjoy the game on higher resolution, higher framerates, and a more developed narrative—as well as new secrets that will be unveiled along the way. In this guide, you will learn how to plant the SOS Beacon in Dead Space Remake.

How to Plant the SOS Beacon in Dead Space Remake

Several objectives in the game are simple, while others can be challenging and complicated—and the mission in Chapter 7 that requires you to plant the SOS Beacon is a case of the latter. This mission is even tedious, because it doesn’t involve new mechanics or battling Necromorphs.

You can plant the SOS Beacon in Chapter 7 of Dead Space Remake while attempting to blast away an asteroid that’s stopping engine efficiency on the Ishimura. However, before you can plant the SOS Beacon, you must take down all nearby gravity tethers.

There are two tethers inside the hangar just above the asteroid, and you can decide to slow them down using stasis and shoot the glowing spots inside them. If you head up, you should find the second tether as well, and since the area is in zero gravity, you can simply jump up and slow it down.

Once you’ve taken down the first two tethers, jump out beyond the asteroid and enter the vacuum of space beyond. There, you can find the last two tethers on the exterior of the Ishimura, and you’ll notice them spinning like the first ones.

Ensure that you have enough oxygen after you’ve taken down all the tethers because, you’ll be attacked by a couple of Necromorphs before making it back to the ship. After taking down the tethers, you can jump onto the asteroid using your zero gravity skills and plant the SOS Beacon.

Then, go back to the hangar and head to the engine control room where you started the mission and activate the main display that’ll blast off the asteroid. That will allow you to progress through the game’s narrative.
