Pokemon Sword and Shield are the latest mainline entries in the Pokemon series, but they are not the only Pokemon games available on Nintendo Switch. With the release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl back in November 2021, Pokemon trainers all over the world were eager to transfer their creatures so as to dominate the Sinnoh League and become the new Champion with ease.
But, is it really possible to transfer Pokemon between Sword and Shield and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl? Let’s find out.
How to Transfer Pokemon from Sword and Shield to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
At the time, it is not possible to transfer Pokemon between Sword and Shield and Brilliant Diamond. Developer ILCA and The Pokemon Company attempted to create some extremely faithful remakes, so many of the Pokemon that can be caught in Sword and Shield are simply not available in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, which only features the same 493 Pokemon featured in the original Diamond and Pearl.
Additionally, no transfer whatsoever has been made possible, even for Pokemon that are in both versions of the game, for balancing issues. As the developer wanted to make Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl as fair as possible, having the ability to transfer super powerful Pokemon from Sword and Shield would have broken the game’s difficulty, making it a real walk in the park.
Things, however, are not meant to stay this way forever. With Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl support coming to Pokemon HOME this year, there will come a time when it will finally be possible to transfer Pokemon between the remakes and Sword and Shield. How this will work remains to be seen, but you can be sure that The Pokemon Company will provide some very detailed information on the procedure, as it always does.
