Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is finally out and players are already getting lost in its multiplayer and campaign modes. However, unlocking weapons in the game is a crucial aspect of MW2 and this time the developers have introduced a new Gunsmith 2.0.
There’s also been a ton of debate from Call of Duty communities regarding the Modern Warfare franchise switching back to its classic mini-map that placed a mark on players using weapons without silencers with red dots. So in this article, we’ll be looking at how to unlock weapons in COD MW2 and also shed a light on the game’s new Gunsmith 2.0.
How To Unlock Weapons in COD MW2
To unlock guns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players simply need to equip different firearms from the game’s Loadout menu and level them up. The new Gunsmith 2.0 provides players with a new attachment called Receiver which allows players to unlock and equip weapons associated with that particular weapon’s progression.
So assuming a player has the M4 equipped and has been levelling it up after several matches, they’ll be able to unlock the Receiver attachment once they get to level 13 with the M4. The Receiver attachment will allow players to use the FTAC Recon assault rifle and upon reaching level 18, they can unlock the 556 Icarus LMG as well.
Also, if a player uses and levels up the FTAC Recon assault rifle all the way to level 16, they’ll unlock the FSS Hurricane submachine gun. And although the whole new progression and weapons unlock system can be somewhat complicated, it’s not all bad.
Players can remove the game’s weapon unlock system by heading to the Gunsmith section of their preferred weapon from the Loadout menu and selecting the Progression tab to check which weapons they can unlock by progressing the chosen weapon.
So ultimately, the Gunsmith system in MW2 is a little bit complicated because unlike previous the previous games, where you don’t have to unlock similar attachments for every weapon, that’s kind of the opposite with MW2.
