Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires enhances the typical hack and slash experience of the series with strategy elements, but the game remains an action game at heart, so you will have to actually win battles on the field to conquer other kingdoms and unify China.

Battles in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires are divided into Offensive and Defensive Battles that work slightly differently. Here’s all you need to know to win Offensive battles without too many troubles.

How to Win Offensive Battles in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires

In Offensive Battles, the main goal is to defeat the enemy general, but to become able to fight them, you will first have to invade the main fortress. And you will have to accomplish a few tasks before you can do so.

At the start of any Offensive Battle, you will have to conquer as many bases as possible to reduce the enemy’s forces, as indicated on the gauge on the top right part of the screen. Conquering select bases will also allow your army to use siege weapons like Rams, Catapults and Siege Towers. All three can give you access to the enemy’s castle by destroying the gate, conquering the lookout bases to unlock the Grappling Hook and let you get on the castle’s walls without having to use said hook. As you conquer bases, however, the enemy will try to counter your efforts by enacting their own Secret Plans, which you should always try to stop before the timer runs out.

Once your troops have entered any given fortress, the Decisive Battle will begin, where you can take on the enemy general. Defeat them, and the battle will be won.
