Chocobo GP is the latest entry in the Chocobo Racing series that started quite a few years ago, and it is a more than worthy game to play for fans of the Final Fantasy series, as the game is a solid kart racer that features tons of different characters lifted from all over the series.
With free-to-play games becoming more and more popular on Nintendo Switch, it would have made a lot of sense for Square Enix to release Chocobo GP as a free-to-play game. Did the Japanese publisher did so? Let’s find out.
Is Chocobo GP Free to Play
Chocobo GP isn’t exactly a free-to-play game, but there is a free version called Chocobo GP Lite that allows players to get a taste of the full, premium experience.
Chocobo GP Lite gives players access to the Story Prologue and Chocobo GP modes, as well as three characters – Chocobo, Shirma, and Ben. No other form of content is available in the Lite version, but if you do have a friend with the full version of the game and play together, you can get access to the local and online multiplayer modes as well.
Despite being a free game, Chocobo GP Lite requires an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription for its online multiplayer modes. Square Enix and Nintendo are essentially treating this Lite version as a demo, and not a free full game, so this is not exactly surprising.
