Things, however, haven’t all always been sunshine and rainbows for the first mobile entry in the popular series. Back when the game launched in late 2019, it was missing tons of features, including proper multiplayer.

Has Nintendo added proper multiplayer modes to Mario Kart Tour following its launch? Let’s find out.

Is Mario Kart Tour Multiplayer?

Mario Kart Tour, like all the other entries in the series, comes with multiplayer modes that allow players to enjoy the game with other real players.

The game’s basic multiplayer mode is Standard Races, a mode that allows you to race against other human players under different rules that change every day. The two sets of rules are 100cc / default item slots and 100c / 2 item slots. Each match consists of three courses featured in the current tour, and your performance will be evaluated at the end of each match.

Alongside Standard Races, Mario Kart Tour features Gold Races, and With Friends of Others Nearby modes. Gold Races are only available to Gold Pass subscribers, it features five sets of rules that rotate each day – 150cc / Default item slots, 150cc / 2 item slots, 200cc / Default item slots and 200cc / 1 item slot and an additional S rank evaluation not available in Standard Races.

With Friends and Others Nearby mode, unlike the other multiplayer modes, allows you to race together with players nearby and choose your own rules, including cc. You can also add CPU-controlled racers in case not enough people are available, but you still want to have a proper Mario Kart experience. The Team Game Rule is also available to further spice up the experience and let you divide into up to 4 teams.
