Octopath Traveler 2 is the newest JRPG from Square Enix that’s set to launch later this month. Unlike the previous installment in the series, which was exclusive to Nintendo Switch, the game will be available for players of multiple platforms to enjoy yet another fascinating tale of eight characters.
If you’re a fan of the prequel, you might be wondering if this new title directly follows it or not. Check out this guide for all you need to know about whether Octopath Traveler 2 is a direct sequel.
Is Octopath Traveler 2 a direct sequel?
Despite coming off as an official sequel to the first game, Octopath Traveler 2 is not exactly a direct sequel. Square Enix is rather launching it as a flagship in the Final Fantasy series, so you may think of it as a disconnected entry that doesn’t really share the same world or characters with the first game.
Square Enix’s announcement of Octopath Traveler 2 may come as a surprise, as the prequel Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent was recently launched globally. However, the game is set to bring new features and characters as they embark on yet another epic quest.
The story of Octopath Traveler 2 is not related to the first game, which means, if you haven’t played Octopath Traveler, you can jump onto this new installment with no worries.
As with the first game, there are eight new travelers in Octopath Traveler 2, with each character having their own backstory and purpose for embarking on the quest.
