In this article, new players can find a lot of information and tips about LOTR: Rise to War that will help them start their adventure and get a better understanding of the game overall.
About the game
Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is a real-time strategy (RTS) game with RPG elements. For players who are unfamiliar with the genre, we should note here that in this type of game completing actions takes time. From building structures to moving your troops around the map, everything is a process that requires real-world time to pass.
The story is set in Middle-Earth of course. Twenty Rings are divided between the factions of the land, but Dark Lord Sauron who possesses the One Ring is after their power. The One Ring has the ability to grant its wielder tremendous power, and so an all-out war between the factions begins.
Your objective as the player/tactician is to expand your city and conquer the land with your army as you chase after the One Ring.
The Most Important Decision Early Game: Selecting your Faction
In Middle-earth, factions are divided into ‘Good’ and ‘Evil’. Each of them has its own starting point on the map, special units that they can produce, and a unique only to the Commander. There are pros and cons when it comes to picking a faction, but all of them are viable.

Recruit the Best Commanders in Lord of the Rings: Rise to War
Each Commander has a different skill set that can affect the gameplay in various ways. Those units can essentially buff the troops under their command with extra stats. Raising their respect level by giving them gifts, will grant points that you can then allocate to learn more skills that will further increase their impact. But that’s not all, Commanders can also raise their level by gaining exp and also increasing their stats with gears.
Players can recruit more Commanders as they advance further into the game based on their faction. An ‘Evil’ faction cannot recruit a Commander from the ‘good’ side and vice versa.

Always Conquer More and Better Tiles
By occupying tiles around the map, players earn resources over time. To do so, they must send their army, led by a Commander unit to a tile that is connected to their territory and fight to conquer it. Higher-level tiles provide more resources but at the same time, it’s much harder to capture them. There is a maximum number of tiles players can control at the time, but that number can be raised by completing the main quest line and upgrading their rings.

Make Sure to Upgrade Structures at All Times
By building and upgrading structures, players can raise the maximum number of troops they control, create higher-level units, earn resources and unlock new features. In order to do so, resources are required which can be obtained over time by the tiles they control.
We recommend leaving the buildings that take a long time last, so you can start upgrading those right before you close the game for an extended period of time.
Forge your Ring and Make it Unique
Once you’ve selected your faction the next step will be to forge your Ring. Your choices won’t affect the gameplay, just the appearance of the Ring. What will impact the gameplay tremendously though, is the Power of your Ring. By raising its level, you’ll get points which you can then allocate to learn skills.
Always Work to Increase Your Ring Power
Ring Power is the resource needed to raise the level of your ring. Tiles under your control provide Ring Power over time. Of course, higher-level tiles will give you much more Power compared to lower-level ones.
Join an Active Fellowship
Forming Fellowships with other players is a very important aspect in LOTR: Rise to War. Joining an active Fellowship with many members can give you access to different parts of the map that you otherwise wouldn’t have.
Do Your Best Each Season
Seasons in Lord of the Rings: Rise to War will be two months long. By the end of every season, players will be rewarded based on the progress that they made. The rewards will vary and we can’t know for sure what the developers have in mind moving forward but, what we definitely know is that players will be able to keep their Commanders and achievements.
The world map along with some other content will be reset, giving players a fresh new state to begin the new season. The new season won’t start off right away, instead, there will be a cutoff period in between.
In Conclusion
Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is a game not only for the fans of the franchise but also a game that players who like real-time strategy games, in general, can enjoy. As a new player and especially if your plan is to stay F2P (free to play), you should be selective with how you spend your resources. More importantly when it comes to raising Commanders respect level. Not all of them are on equal power levels and that can shift the balance of the game. Don’t spend resources on Commanders that are simply not worth it.
