Although the confrontation with the final E.M.M.I. was expected to be long, it is actually a very short fight. The short duration, however, doesn’t make it any less intense.

Here’s how to defeat the Red E.M.M.I. and what you get for your troubles.

How to Defeat the Red E.M.M.I. in Metroid Dread

The Red E.M.M.I. is fought in Hanubia, very late in the game. Unlike for the other E.M.M.I., you will not have to destroy the Central Unit and activate the Omega Cannon to defeat the Red one, as Samus is starting to awaken to her true powers and doesn’t need any additional help to take it down.

As soon as you enter the boss fight area, you will see the Red E.M.M.I. approaching, and a cutscene will play. During the cutscene, you will have to counter the E.M.M.I.’s attack to prevent it from killing Samus with a single attack. To counter this attack, you will have to press the X button as soon as the E.M.M.I. flashes a bright light.

Once you counter properly, the cutscene will continue playing out until Samus takes down the E.M.M.I. There’s no time to rest, though, as you will now have to fight against a Red Chozo Soldier.

Defeating the Red E.M.M.I. will reward you with the Power Bomb upgrade, one of Samus’ most powerful weapons in Metroid Dread that will allow you to destroy specific blocks and further explore planet ZDR.
