This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Platform game Mr. Runner 2: The Masks is now available for free on iOS. As you probably might have guessed from the title, we’re talking about yet another endless runner game. Luckily the game has a few gimmicks that make it stand out from the countless other runners available on the App Store.

Unlike other games, in Mr. Runner 2: The Masks you will not be using the controls to make the character avoid traps, change platforms or anything else. Tapping on the screen is used to adjust the running speed of the character, allowing gamers to slow down or accellerate as needed by touching the screen on the left and on the right.

While on paper this sounds quite unique, at least compared to the competition, the game kinda lacks a sense of rhythm. You never “feel” the game, as the constant slowing down and accellerating mechanic simply doesn’t work too well.

This isn’t to say that the game doesn’t have its merits. Mr. Runner 2: The Masks features an impressive presentation, with so much side material that you may forget the game’s inherent flaws for a few minutes. Unfortunately you will remember them as soon as you realize all the side material only brings cosmetic changes.

Still, some gamers might enjoy enjoy a gameplay experience that tries to do something different. And there’s no time like now to try out the game, since it’s free!

Mr. Runner 2: The Masks is now available for download on the App Store.
