No More Heroes III, like previous entries in the series, offers a very varied gameplay experience that bends video games genres left and right. In addition to action and survival horror sequences, the latest entry in the series also offers a classic, turn-based JRPG experience during the fight against Sonic Juice.
Here’s everything you need to know to master turn-based combat and show Sonic Juice who’s boss!
Overview
Sonic Juice is one of those characters that you cannot bring yourself to hate, considering that he doesn’t see humans as evil and doesn’t wholly agree with this invasion of Earth. Still, he cannot oppose FU, so you will have to take him down during Episode 08 – Loyalty.
Drops
Sonic Juice drops Muscat Juice and Grape Juice upon defeat. The latter is only dropped when he is defeated in the Time Machine on Death Difficulty.
How to Defeat Sonic Juice
Time to Go Turn-Based
The battle against Sonic Juice will begin with a turn-based combat sequence that plays like classic Japanese role-playing games like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. While there are multiple commands available, only a few of them actually work, like Fight, Magic – Thunder, Charge and Item.
If you want to fight Sonic Juice using turn-based combat, your best strategy is to unleash the Thunder magic for 777 points of damage, charge your Katana and heal with items when needed. Fighting this way will take a long time to rack up damage, so it’s not exactly recommended.
If you want to go back to the usual No More Heroes III action gameplay, you need to destroy the command window by selecting Fight and pressing down on the left stick. Make sure to not destroy the status window, however, as that may make the fight more complicated.
Action Combat is My Thing
Once back in the usual No More Heroes III action gameplay, you can take on Sonic Juice like you did every other enemy and boss you have defeated. The boss is particularly susceptible to the Death Slow and Death Rain Death Glove Skills, so use them as much as possible.
Know When to Recharge
Sonic Juice’s attacks cover quite a bit of range and thus make it difficult for Travis to find time to recharge the Beam Katana safely. The best moment to do so is after the boss has unleashed the spinning water wheel attack. Move to the back of the stage to avoid the attack and get some time to recharge the Katana.
