The Pokémon games are loved by many for lots of different reasons. Some trainers want to achieve glory by raising the best team there ever was, while other trainers prefer to befriend and take care of their favorite Pokémon. No matter what your goal was as a trainer, you always forged strong bonds with your Pokémon, through thick and thin.
One of the most beloved features throughout the entire series was a seemingly little addition back in Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver — the ability to have your favorite Pokémon follow you around. This was such a small mechanic as all it did was have your Pokémon trail behind you as you were wandering about, but fans absolutely adored it. Walking alongside your favorite Pokémon really made you feel like you were on a journey with your best friends.
Those games came out in 2010, which is just over ten years ago, and the following feature never returned until 2018’s Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee. Unfortunately, the following was very limited, as you could only have the titular Pokémon follow you. Fast-forward to August 18, 2021, when The Pokémon Company showcased another “Pokémon Presents,” a half-hour long video detailing new features in the upcoming Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl.

It will function exactly like it did in HeartGold and SoulSilver, so all you need to do is choose a Pokémon from your team, and then they’ll pop out of their Poké Ball.
This time around, we’ll be able to journey through the Sinnoh region with our favorite friends in tow. Are you one of the many fans excited for this feature to return? Let us know in the comments below!
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl will be available on November 19, 2021 for the Nintendo Switch.
