Galarian Moltres is a new take on the classic legendary bird introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Crown Tundra DLC. It foregoes Kantonian Moltres’s fire typing, and instead, takes on dark typing with more of a role as special attacker with a lot of special bulk.
The question is, where do you find and catch Galarian Moltres?
First, you’ll want to head to the massive tree in the Crown Tundra’s Ballimere lake subzone if you haven’t already. Once there, you can see a cutscene that concludes with all three of the Galarian legendary birds flying off in different directions. Galarian Moltres will fly off to the Isle of Armor.
Moltres won’t stay in a static position, and will instead follow a round path throughout the lower half of the island. Your chances of catching up to it are slim, so it’s better to try and cut it off at certain places along the route. One easy location is along the path beside the dojo, but there’s no single right way to do it.
Once you’ve succeeded in getting its attention, you’ll have to battle it and catch it as you would just about any other Pokémon. Galarian Moltres will be at level 70 and has the impressive stats that you’d expect of a legendary Pokémon, so be ready for what could be a tough fight.
Its base catch chance is very low, so it’s best to lower its health before you start throwing Pokéballs, but be warned: once below 50% health, Galarian Moltres’s Berserk ability will activate and increase its special attack by one stage.
Paralyzing it or putting it to sleep will not only increase your odds of catching it, but will also make the incoming damage more manageable after it goes berserk. Throw enough Pokéballs and you’ll be sure to have a Galarian Moltres of your own!
To reiterate:
- Start the legendary birds’ cutscene under the huge tree at Ballimere Lake.
- Fly to the southern half of the Isle of Armor.
- Intercept Galarian Moltres as it patrols around the zone.
- Catch it as you would any other Pokemon.
That’s all there is to catching Galarian Moltres in Pokémon Sword and Shield!
