Pokémon Sword and Shield May Be Compatible With Pokémon GO

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Pokémon Sword and Shield are the first main entries in the series to be in development for Nintendo Switch, but outside some limited information, we don’t know much about them. According to some recently discovered info, however, there’s the chance that the two games will be compatible with Pokémon GO.

The latest update released for Niantic’s mobile game added a string to the game’s code, “koala_settings”, which doesn’t seem to do much at the moment, as it refers to an app separate from the game.

This koala may actually be a reference to Pokémon Sword and Shield, as Game Freak usually names main entries in the series as animals.

Considering how successful the mobile game is continuing to be, it wouldn’t be surprising to see some sort of functionality between Pokémon Sword and Shield and Pokémon GO.

Nintendo and Niantic haven’t said anything regarding the matter, but an announcement is likely coming next month during the E3.

Pokémon Sword and Shield launch later this year exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
