PXLPLAY Is a Retro-Style Casual Arcade Game, Out Now on Mobile

It’s not hard to find a casual arcade game on Google Play or the App Store, but it can be hard to find a good one.

For every Crossy Road, there are roughly a billion duds, clogging up your storefront and blocking your path to true happiness.

What you need – what we all need – is for our games to be professionally validated, and PXLPLAY comes with some of the most impressive validation around.

Not only was it a finalist at the Pocket Gamer Connect Seattle 2023 Big Indie Pitch event, but the studio behind PXLPLAY reached the finals in the Best Indie Developer of the 2023 Pocket Gamer Mobile Games Awards too.

If you haven’t played PXLPLAY yet, here’s what you’ve been missing.

Created by indie developer Pixel Play LLC, PXLPLAY is an arcade game in the tradition of titles like Crossy Road and Pac-Man 256.

That means it’s simple to play and boasts a colorful 3D art-style that manages to be both cleanly minimal and packed with charming detail.

The aim of the game is to survive an endless series of randomly generated stages. You start off playing as PXL, a loveable cube bouncing along a floating platform, collecting smaller cubes that translate into points, which translate into leaderboard supremacy.

Over time you get to unlock more than 80 different characters, so if PXL doesn’t float your boat you’ll have plenty of options.

Each of the game’s suspended walkways is full of twists and turns – by which we mean sharp right angles. To stay on solid ground you need to tap on the screen to change direction whenever you reach a corner.

The same action lets you activate power-ups whenever you bounce over them, allowing you to shrink under high obstacles, vault over low ones, expand in size, and temporarily speed up.

And that’s pretty much the game. PXLPLAY is rated for EVERYONE on Google Play, and it’s part of the Families Program, so it’s genuinely one for the whole family.

You can download PXLPLAY for free right now on the App Store and Google Play.
