Roblox Removing Audio: Everything you Need to Know

Roblox Removing Audio: Everything you Need to Know

In an unexpected turn of events, Roblox Corporation has decided to set all Roblox audio to private, meaning that only the audio owners will be able to use it in their games. This will apply to all the new audios uploaded as well. Roblox is a popular online game platform and game creation system that allows various users to create games and play games created by other users. Before this change, users could use music, sound effects, ambient noise, etc., that wasn’t directly created and uploaded by its developer. However, this will soon change with Roblox Audio Removal.

A recent blog post by Roblox staff member MorganT reads, “On March 22, all new audio uploaded will be Private and all existing audio longer than 6 seconds will be set to Private.” This simply means that all user-created/uploaded audios will automatically be made private, including those already present on the platform. While no reason has been mentioned as to why this action was taken, it’s likely due to the multi-million dollar lawsuit that the company faced in 2021, where more than 10 music companies were charging them for copyright violations.

With this new rule coming into effect, only sounds created, uploaded, and/or authorized by Roblox’s licensing team will be made public on the platform and all others will be removed. This new rule has certainly aggravated many Roblox users and creators, and a developer has even started a petition “urging Roblox to change their ideas.” Usually small and upcoming developers who don’t have the budget to create their own music and sound effects use uploaded audio files in their games. However, this will completely change once the Roblox Audio Removal rule comes into effect.
