The io.netty.channel Causes

All users experiencing the error had one of the following issues:

  • Connection to a public Wi-Fi network. Minecraft doesn’t work well with it. The main difference is that public networking blocks file sharing. Switching to a private network often works.
  • Dynamic IP. If you have a dynamic IP address that changes every few days, then this may cause the problem.
  • Blocked port. When connecting to servers, a specific port is used. If it is blocked, you will not be able to enter the server.
  • Filling the DNS cache. Clear and reset temporary DNS files.

How to Fix IO.netty.channel Error in Minecraft

The following fixes should work for most players:

  • Change Wi-Fi network type. The task is to go to the administrative panel and switch to the “Private network” mode. Minecraft often doesn’t work on a public network.
  • Unblock port. To do this, go to the folder where Minecraft is located, go to Maxwell Servers, then MinecraftServer. Open the server.properties file and look for “Server Port.” It may be 25565 or whatever. Then we go to the YouGetSignal website and check the availability of the port. If it is blocked, it should be unblocked through the router. You may even need to contact your ISP.
  • Reset network settings. All you have to do is open a command prompt and enter a series of commands: pconfig/flushdns, ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew, ipconfig/registerdns.

There is a good chance that the io.netty.channel error when connecting to Minecraft servers will no longer occur. You may additionally need to specify your IP address and port in the multiplayer game editor.
