A new version of the iOS port of the game has now been released, introducing quite a lot of all new features that are not available in the original Genesis release.

A new Boss Attack mode has been introduced, allowing Sonic and Tails to fight all of the game’s bosses in a single run.
Together with Sonic and Tails, players will now also be able to play as Knuckles during the game. Knuckles has different abilities from the other characters and he will force you to approach the stages differently.

An all new Zone has also been introduced. The Hidden Palace Zone is a Zone Sonic fans know to well, being one of the Zones that didn’t make it to the final game. Now the Hidden Palace is finally available for play, offering new undiscovered enemies, new traps to avoid and a new boss battle against Eggman.

Among the additions introduced by Version 3.0 are updated graphics, widescreen display, a re-mastered soundtrack and a smooth and steady 60fps frame rate.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and the 3.0 update are now available for download on the App Store. If you have bought the original release of the game, you will be able to download the update for free.
