With an unannounced move, Namco Bandai has released one classic role playing game on the App Store for free.
Tales Of Phantasia is the first entry of the successful Tales Of role playing game series. Originally released in 1995 on Super Nintendo, the game has been ported several times to other platforms, including PlayStation Portable and mobile devices.
The iOS release of the game is based on the Full Voice Edition, which was released in Japan on PlayStation Portable. This version includes new voiced events, animated cutscenes and more.
Tales Of Phantasia on iOS can be played from start to finish. The in-app purchases are in no way required to unlock contents from the main game, offering only some power-ups and boosts that can be used to have an easier time during the game.
There’s a catch though: you will always have to be connected online to play the game, a small price to pay for playing a classic role playing game for free.
Tales Of Phantasia stars Cress, a young man who finds himself entangled in the battle against the all power Dhaos. Joining Cress on his journey are a few other characters who will help him defeat Dhaos for good and restore order and balance to the world. The game’s story may not be overly original but it’s execution is definitely one of its strongest points.
Tales Of Phantasia is now available for download on the App Store.
